Five New Missionaries Arrive!

On December 11, five new missionaries arrived: four from the United States and one from Russia.
From left: President and Sister Brinton, Sister Watts from Murray, UT; Elder Alvord from Lindon, UT; Elder Lusk from Rigby, ID; Elder Luekenga from Avondale, AZ; and Elder Protopopov from Moscow, Russia.
Excited to finally be in the mission field!
This group of new missionaries found an "investigator" on the airplane en route to Vlad from Seoul. Here President committed the man to attend church on Sunday and presented him with a Book of Mormon.
The new missionaries piled into the Mission Van for the 45 minute drive into Vladivostok.
After the Welcome Dinner and brief devotional, the tired missionaries (17 hours of flying time from the U.S.) went to sleep on the early side. The next morning, the missionaries helped with breakfast: pancakes, buttermilk syrup, bacon, eggs, and fruit. Here Elder Lusk is making some pancakes.
Sister Watts pitched in with the pancakes as well.
The missionaries finished breakfast (Elder Alvord was ironing his shirt) and went into the living room for training.
Every morning without fail, missionaries have personal study from the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel starting at 8 a.m. They arise at 6:30 a.m., pray, exercise for 1/2 hour, shower, dress, and eat. They are ready to begin their day.

Russian-speaking missionaries have one hour of language study daily. During the first 12-weeks of training, they have an additional hour of study and training.
Elders Luekenga, Lusk, and Alvord listen during the morning training session.
They have a 1/2 hour break for lunch, then train with their new companions (3 of them by Skype)
The missionaries dress warmly before going out "street contacting" for the first time with older missionaries and President Brinton.
Our two Assistants, Elder Crave and Elder Malmsten joined the group for some training and street contacting.

We are thrilled to have these five wonderful new missionaries! They will be a tremendous asset to the mission.
