It's always an exciting time in our mission when new missionaries arrive. October 30 was no exception. We received 4 wonderful elders and 2 wonderful sisters. Please excuse the fact that the same two people...one in green...appear in each of the pictures :) We neglected to get one group photo of all the missionaries.
Elder Johnsen is from Beaverton, Oregon.
Elder Glazunov is from Novosibirsk, Russia.
Elder Walker is from Middleton, Idaho.
Sister Dudley is from El Dorado Hills, California.
Sister Christensen is from Elizabeth, Colorado.
Elder Brown is from Pima, Arizona.
Sister Dudley is greeted by Sister Training leaders, Sister Allison and Sister McMurtrey. Sister Christensen hadn't appeared yet as she was busy filling out papers regarding her lost piece of luggage. Customs officials allowed President Brinton into the Customs Area when 3 of our missionaries didn't "arrive" with the others.
We met the missionaries in two waves: the first group didn't lose any luggage. All was well with Elder Walker, Elder Glazunov, and Sister Dudley's luggage. We met the second group of missionaries fifteen minutes later after Elder Brown, Elder Johnsen, and Sister Christensen's lost luggage was traced to Los Angeles. It was put on the very next flight to Vladivostok and arrived in good order the next day. This is the first of our missionaries to have luggage not arrive with them.
Elder Walker and Elder Jaeckel will be companions in Nakhodka.
Elder Elwood and Elder Glazunov will be companions in Ussuriysk.
Elder Brown writes in his planner. Elder Brown and Elder Johnsen met their companions via skype for Missionary training. After training, they headed to the West Zone (a five hour flight to Irkutsk and another 8-hour train ride to Ulan-Ude).
Elder Johnsen finds a moment to relax while memorizing a scripture in Russian.
Sister Christensen is working on her Russian memorization.
It's always fun to get to know our missionaries better while having dinner in the Mission Home. From left to right with their assignments: Sister Christensen (Vladivostok); Sister Dudley (Artyom); Elder Johnsen (Irkutsk); Elder Glazunov (Ussuriysk); Elder Brown (Ulan-Ude); Elder Walker (Nakhodka)
Elders Glazanov, Brown, Walker, and Johnsen were remarkably energetic after their very long flights to Vladivostok. Our elders stay in the "bunk bed room" their first night in the country. The sisters have their own room in the Mission Home.
We are delighted to welcome such a wonderful group of missionaries. What a blessing they will be to our mission!
